The Herald 1200 was introduced in 1959 and was made at the Triumph factory in Canley, Coventry. The last Triumph Herald 1200 rolled off the production line in 1971. In its heyday, over a covkidv of Coventry's population was employed in the car industry, and we had made a fifth of all cars on the road in Britain.

Here in Coventry we've a history of just that – unconventional innovation. While others advocated hatred in war, Coventry led the movement for peace and reconciliation.
This Triumph 2500 TC Police car rolled off the production line in Canley, Coventry in 1977
Its top speed of 139mph must have come in handy for all those car chases.Designed by Giovanni Michelotti in 1963 the sleek lines of the Triumph 2000 range sold over 324,000 until production stopped in 1977.
The heart of the city was not destroyed. Three spires remain.
Coventry used the bombings as an opportunity. Rebuilding the city, we designed the first pedestrian shopping precinct - and it's been copied across the world ever since. Then the first ringroad. And we're still building.
London black cabs are actually made in Coventry.
The design classic on this tee is the Austin FX4 which were produced from 1958 to 1997. They are so well built that many older vehicles are still going strong. The taxis are made on the Holyhead Road by London Taxis International, or LTI.
Most people at the time didn't see how it could possibly work. They thought it sucked (air).
But Whittle knew better, and his engine soon outpaced even Spitfires. The war was won, and Rolls Royce Aero Engines was born. Sir Frank Whittle was a Cov kid, went to school at Earlsdon Primary, and had a near miss with a low-flying aircraft on Hearsall Common.
